10 am at Arlington Park. Explore nature with staff from the City of Sarasota Parks & Recreation Department & Mote Marine Laboratory for FREE FUN Nature Programs! 18 months-5 year olds. Pre-Registration is Required. For more information or to Register, Call the Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex at 941-554-2110. February 5: Making Sense of Nature - We will experience the environment through a scientist's perspective and the curiosity of a child. Making Sense of Nature will address each sense (sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste) through use of scientific tools/observation and a series of hands-on activities that relate to the flora and fauna of the park. Participants will leave the program with a heightened sense of awareness and skills that they can apply to "research" or experience any nature setting.
March 5: Tortoises, Terrapins, and Turtles, Oh My! - In this month of green (and Miss Alison's birthday month), we will discuss our green, shelled reptile friends and figure out the differences in habitat, food preference, and behavior between them. We'll put our newly acquired knowledge to the test in an interactive song and dance, and walk around the park to identify any resident turtles.
April 2: Aqua April - "April showers bring May flowers", but water is not just important for helping plants grow; people and animals need it too! In this lesson we will learn about how people, plants, and animals use water, engage in a couple of water-based scientific experiments, and we will also all go on a Wildlife Water Safari to learn where the water sources are in the park and who uses them.
